4th MARKANT Information Day Czech Republic/Slovakia

We were all delighted with the "full house" at the 4th Information Day at MARKANT Česko/Slovensko s.r.o. This year, the spotlight was on taking up digital challenges together and adapting ourselves nimbly to face the future. Around 180 top managers from trade and industry took part in the event and seized the opportunity to exchange views. The well-known TV host Daniel Stach presented the programme which featured high-profile guest speakers.

Strategies rich in opportunities for the future

Against a background of digital change, Tomáš Sláma, Managing Director of MARKANT Česko/Slovensko s.r.o., unveiled the service range which the MARKANT Group uses to help its partners and provide support along the whole value-added chain.

Ladislav Csengeri from GfK Tschechien spoke about the appropriate "Consumer segmentation - addressed to various purchasing groups". To clarify his point, he sketched an outline of today's consumers and pinpointed the differences between consumers in the Czech Republic and Slovakia compared to the rest of Europe.

Nils Müller, Managing Director of Trend One, outlined the digital trends of the next 10 years. "Four main points must be observed in order to implement trends in companies: vision as a prerequisite for successful long-term planning; creativity (openly dealing with what appears impossible today); accepting mistakes in order to remain ready for setbacks; agility (moulding ideas dynamically)."

Deloitte economist David Marek looked into the consequences of automation for the employment market and the economy: "We are on the verge of a great technological change. We must decide how to cope with it."

Former EU Commissioner Prof. Günter Verheugen rounded off the Information Day. He issued a warning about the inability of a divided EU to act and, within this context, posed the rhetorical question: "Quo vadis, Europa?"

The event also marked the departure of Franz-Friedrich Müller, the long-serving and successful Managing Director of the MARKANT Group. On 1 January 2019, Christian Francken will take over his duties and assume responsibility for the Central Services and Commodities sector. "My predecessor and mentor is entrusting me with his life's work. Following in his footsteps will not be easy", stated Mr Francken. "Therefore, I am particularly pleased that Franz-Friedrich Müller will still be resolutely supporting us as President of the Administrative Board of MARKANT Handels- und Industriewaren-Vermittlungs AG", he added.
