Training in order to be taken on

«You notice that Markant trains people in order to take them on and that as a trainee you're also definitely included in its plans. Markant wants to make sure that we're happy with the area in which we are taken on so that we enjoy working there and we stay with the company.»

A unique approach to teaching

«I decided to work for Markant because I was convinced by the concept of the training workshop. It's a unique approach to teaching because we all learn from and with each other and that can only add to our knowledge. You could say that I first fell in love with IT during my training, until then I was just vaguely interested in it.»

Application guide

We would like to inform you about all the key facts relating to apprenticeships and dual studies with us. We have therefore summarized our answers to frequently asked questions by topic below. Should you have any further questions, we will be happy to assist you - by phone or email.

  • Are there certain requirements which must be met for a pupil internship?

What we need is a complete application with covering letter, curriculum vitae and references. A school certificate must be submitted for practical internships required by schools – BORS, BOGY or others. This certificate should show us that the planned internship is a mandatory component of the corresponding school programme.

Do I receive a certificate for the pupil internship?

Yes, all participants receive an official internship certificate.

  • When do I have to apply for an apprenticeship?

Our selection process always begins in May for the following year. It is better to apply a little earlier rather than too late. This will give us sufficient time to review your documents in detail.

How long does the apprenticeship last, and how does an apprenticeship work exactly?

The various apprenticeships all last three years. Business trainees in wholesale and foreign trade management get to know different divisions during this period – such as controlling, the HR and marketing divisions, the trade fair department or one of our many service departments. Future IT specialists work at our own training workshop in the first apprenticeship year. From the second apprenticeship year, they switch to different IT divisions, such as development, the security division, the processing centre or application management.

Is there the option of organising my own vocational training programme?

Yes, of course. It is important to us that apprentices are active in organising the start of their professional life. Experience shows that this increases the satisfaction and motivation of both parties. Specifically, this means that once you have completed the second year of your apprenticeship, we will discuss with you which areas you have found particularly interesting. The third apprenticeship year will then be designed and planned from the areas you find particularly interesting and those which you have yet to attend.

How are the first days of the apprenticeship?

All the apprentices and students get to know one another on the first day and complete team exercises together. On the second day, you will begin to learn more about your new colleagues, the Markant Group and the apprenticeship itself. All important information will be provided about the apprenticeship and all questions will be answered. The new employees are welcomed together on the actual first day of the apprenticeship and accompanied to the relevant areas.

How often does vocational school take place, and where is it located?

Every apprentice goes to vocational school once or twice a week. Lessons take place on a set day of each week. The second school day either takes place on an even or an odd week. This means: you have two days of vocational school every two weeks. You attend the Kaufmännische Schulen Lahr (Lahr business schools) for skilled occupations in wholesale and foreign trade and the Gewerbliche Schulen Offenburg (Offenburg commercial schools) for those in the field of information technology.

Who are my contacts in the apprenticeship departments?

They are usually employees who have either completed an apprenticeship or like to work together with young people. There is therefore a specific supervisor for trainees and students in every division.

Is there the option of being taken on after finishing my apprenticeship?

Yes. But it clearly depends to a large extent on your performance. The better you perform, the more likely you are to be subsequently taken on. We are generally very interested in taking on our trainees.

  • When do I have to apply for a dual course of study?

Our selection process always begins in May for the following year. It is better to apply a little earlier rather than too late. This will give us sufficient time to review your documents in detail.

What does the dual course of study look like at Markant Group?

During your studies, you will complete practical phases at Markant Group and theoretical phases at the Dual University. The timing of the individual phases varies from year to year. There is not a strict division into three months of work and three months of university.

Is there the option of organising my own study programme?

Yes, of course. It is important to us that students are active in organising the start of their professional life. Experience shows that this increases the satisfaction and motivation of both parties. Specifically, this means that, once you have completed the second year of your studies, we will discuss with you which areas you have found particularly interesting during the practical phase. The practical phases in the third year of study will then be designed and planned from the areas you find particularly interesting and those which you have yet to attend.

What happens during the first days of study?

All the apprentices and students get to know one another on the first day and complete team exercises together. On the second day, you will begin to learn more about your new colleagues, the Markant Group and the study content. All important information will be provided about the course, and all questions will be answered. The actual first day of the course can be very different. Some courses of study start with the theoretical phase at university and others with the practical phase. For the theoretical phase, you would start at the university immediately on the first day. You receive all of the necessary information there and begin lectures as normal. If your course begins with the practical phase, all new employees will be welcomed together and accompanied to their relevant areas.

What are the partner universities, and where are they located?

For the business studies programme in retail and food management, we cooperate with the Dual University of Heilbronn, and applied computer science and business information systems we cooperate with the Dual University of Karlsruhe.

Is there the option of being taken on after finishing my studies?

Yes. But it clearly depends to a large extent on your performance. The better you perform, the more likely you are to be subsequently taken on. We are generally very interested in taking on our trainees.

  • Can I also submit a paper application by post?

Please do not send applications by post. All applications should be submitted via the applicant portal.

Which documents should I send with my application, and what is the maximum file size for these documents?

Please send us a compelling covering letter explaining why you want to join Markant, together with your full CV and current references. The documents may not exceed a total file size of 10 MB.

How will I know that my application has been received?

You will receive automatic notification confirming that your application has been received in our system.

How long will my application documents be stored for?

If you are offered a position, your application documents will be stored for the duration of your position. In case of a rejection or if your user account is deleted (equivalent to rejection), the data will be deleted four months after the conclusion of the application process.
