Initiative for improving data quality wins through in the face of strong competition

At this year's awards ceremony for the ECR Award in the "Operational Excellence" category, which recognises inter-company cooperative initiatives, GS1 Germany handed the award to the joint initiative involving Markant, Dr. Oetker, Edeka, Henkel, Metro, Mondelez, Procter & Gamble, Rewe Group and Unilever.

Acting as the representative of the corporate initiative, which seeks to improve the quality of product master data and to optimise processes within value-creating networks, Michael Georgiev, Director of the Organisation & Processes division at Rewe Group, accepted the prize in person at what was otherwise an entirely virtual ceremony due to the coronavirus.

With the "Data Quality Excellence" (DQX) initiative the cooperation partners have taken a major step forwards towards achieving their goal of enhancing the quality of product master data within the German food retail sector (LEH) and establishing a quality standard. The service reviews the completeness, correctness and consistency of product master data, and it consequently makes products safe and fit for the retail sector of the future. An electronic seal means that the recipients of the data can immediately tell the quality of the data records – so no further checking of the product master data by the retailer is required. This makes the supply-chain processes in the FMCG sector quicker as well as more reliable, efficient and cost-effective – which significantly reduces the need for two-way communication between industry and retailers.

The joint initiative for optimising data quality is based on efficient, transparent and above all trust-based collaboration between the companies that are involved. The recognition provided by the ECR Award 2021 consequently provides confirmation of the intensive efforts that are being made to ensure standardised quality assurance of product master data in the food retail sector. Markant congratulates all the partner companies involved and is keen to continue promoting the issue of data quality in future.
